Interesting read.  It reminds me of an article I read in Sports Illustrated about teams training for long-distance events.  They followed a schedule like found here (https://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=491).  I can&#039;t remember the term, but it&#039;s widely accepted practice to seriously dial back the intensity of training right before the main event.  I&#039;m not sure if mental activities benefit from a corollary to the surplus energy and stamina that occurs when this practice is used for distance events, but my experience and your post seem like there might be some overlap in application.
